Members are communication links between the media, public and government. The NCAGIO is dedicated to the professional enhancement of its members and offers several opportunities throughout the year for members to gather together and share information and news related to the public information profession. Please be sure to join us for one of our monthly meetings at the Albert Coates Local Government Center in downtown Raleigh, or for our annual seminar, which is held in November each year. If you have any questions about NCAGIO, please contact any of the officers listed below.

Monthly Meetings Schedule

The NCAGIO meets on the third Tuesday of each month to listen to various speakers discuss issues that are of importance to government information officers. These meetings are open to non-NCAGIO members as well. Please take advantage of this wonderful networking and professional development opportunity. Meetings are typically held in the Albert Coates Local Government Center in downtown Raleigh but are occasionally held at various locations around the state.

Pack yourself a lunch and plan on joining us at noon for a tour and presentation at the newly updated North Carolina Museum of Art at 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh. This is a great opportunity for members to hear what went into making this renovation a reality, plus learn some of the marketing techniques and efforts to promote the attraction. You’ll also get to see the new museum and its distinctive collection.

Public Records tutorials online

The state Government Records Branch, Local Records Unit has created several on-line tutorials designed for government employees at the state and local level.

The unit has posted online tutorials for “Managing Your Inbox: E-mail as a Public Record,” “Managing Electronic Public Records: Recognizing Perils and Avoiding Pitfalls” and “Managing Public Records for Local Government Agencies” on the Government Records Branch Web site. The tutorials are online at www.records.ncdcr.gov.

Several public records bills pending

Open government and public records are hot topics at the General Assembly in 2009. Several bills were filed during the 2009 session that would modify various aspects of the existing public records laws, including public notice, recording closed sessions and the attorneys' fees. Click here for a summary of each bill.
