Social
Media for Citizen Participation: NC Examples and General Best Practices -
Webinar
Many local governments in North Carolina are beginning to use online tools such
as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to communicate with citizens. What are
important considerations for initiating or building a social media component for
citizen communication and input? How might government work with local media,
nonprofit groups and others to support an online version of “the public square”?
This webinar provides many examples from large and small NC jurisdictions using
social media. We explore the why, and “how tos” for content management and free
speech, staff training and responsibilities, and developing appropriate policies
to guide social media use. Material includes results of a survey of more than 100
North Carolina
local government jurisdictions, practical tips and state and local resources on
how social media relates to open and transparent government movements.
The fee is $95 per site and participants are encouraged to view the webinar as a
group. If you are not able to view the webinar on June 30, the on-demand version
will be available for purchase after July 6th.
