President

Gavin MacRoberts, City of Fayetteville
Gavin MacRoberts currently works for the City of Fayetteville as a Public Information Specialist and specializes in video production, TV engineering and public records for the city. Gavin is a lifelong native of North Carolina and a fan of hockey and his alma mater, North Carolina State University. Gavin lives with his family in Moore County and can often be found relaxing in the backyard playing with his son and wife or on the ice with his friends stopping hockey pucks with his face... as a goalie. Past President

Niki Jennings, N.C. State University
Niki Jennings is the Communications Specialist for the NC State University Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and previously was a marketing project manager, graphic designer and print production manager. She also manages a creative side hustle as Pix by Nix, where she provides marketing services for small businesses. But her secret passion is home organization and wishes she was a partner with Clea and Joanna of The Home Edit. She crochets and knits, and likes to call herself a fiber artist, but really she just likes to collect lots of colorful yarn to display in her craft room/guest bedroom.
Vice President

Jonathan Owens, State Employees Association of North Carolina
Jonathan is the Director of Communications of the State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC). Before joining the SEANC staff 10 years ago, he was a reporter and editor at a daily newspaper for eight years. A native of Robbins, N.C., Owens comes from a long line of potters in the Seagrove area. He enjoys obsessing over basketball games involving his alma mater, UNC-Chapel Hill, watching his son’s baseball games, and spending the weekends at Holden Beach with his family.
Treasurer

Jamie Barnett, Local Government Federal Credit Union
Jamie currently works at LGFCU as the Financial Planning Manager, where she has been for the last 8 years. Jamie was born and raised in eastern North Carolina and attended Campbell University for both her bachelor's and master's degrees. She is currently attending Liberty University for her doctorate degree. Jamie lives in Wayne County with her three rescue dogs.
Secretary

Kathi Petersen, Explore Asheville CVB
Kathi is Public Information Manager at Explore Asheville, the marketing arm of the Buncombe County TDA. With a Master's degree in Public Affairs, she has tackled the communication challenges of a wide variety of companies and organizations over the course of her career, including those focused on economic development, food entrepreneurship, climate change, healthcare, wastewater infrastructure – and one of her favorites: ziplines. Having lived in Asheville since way before it was cool, she’s also a proud “Momsey” to two Portlandian grandbabies. She and her hubby are parents to two adult daughters, one of whom is 6’3” and played college basketball – particularly notable since Kathi is 5 feet and shrinking.
Members At-Large

Katie Mosher, N.C. Sea Grant/N.C. State University
Katie Mosher has been North Carolina Sea Grant's communications director since 1998, and previously was a newspaper reporter and editor, television assignment manager and freelance writer. In addition to overall planning and direction for NC Sea Grant communications, she also supervises communications for NC Space Grant and the NC Water Resources Research Institute. But she truly enjoys the times that she can be a science writer and editor for outreach products. She also works with advisory boards, as well as a wide range of partners in academic communities, business and industry, federal, state and local agencies, and community organizations; as well as serving on the NOAA-U.S. Lifesaving Association Task Force on Rip Current Safety. She and her husband Dan have trained and volunteered with three therapy dogs, visiting hospitals, nursing homes and even libraries. Here's hoping that puppy Molly will follow the family tradition.

Matt Shaw, City of Wilson
Matt Shaw has worked for the City of Wilson’s communications and marketing department since 2010, following more than two decades as a newspaper reporter and editor. He serves as the city’s main photographer, videographer, writer and communications professional. He originally is from Chapel Hill and is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill.
